A couple of weeks ago a friend and I took to the streets of Katonah with my camera in tow. Instagram had taught me that there is an absolute treasure trove of awesome small businesses there and I had to check them out (and share them with you). And I fell in love with a few small businesses in the process.
I have four stores to share with you today, but please note that there are definitely more than four that deserve a visit. I had to race home to get my girls off the bus or I would have wandered into POP Katonah next! Also note that there are a bunch of places to eat in town. I fueled up with squash toast from Katonah Reading Room before wandering—and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
OK. Let’s get down to the shops.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think a lot of times people feel like they can’t shop small when it comes to kids. Whether they have a very specific list of licensed character toys that they want or you’re just used to going to a big box store, people seem to forget about the little guys. I’m here to prove that wrong with the help of these great stores in Katonah.
G. Willikers is a classic toy store. Located right across the street from the Katonah train station, it is brimming with fun toys, games, and kids accessories. It’s basically every child’s paradise. I mean, I honestly dare you to go in there and not find something. What I love most about their selection is that it’s a little bit off the beaten path. They pay close attention to the quality of the items they stock and it shows. If you buy a gift from them, it won’t be something three other people also bought the kid. A go-to spot for kid gifts, for sure.

Little Joe’s Coffee and Books
If you’re anything like me, toys are fantastic but I also always have to give at least one book. This word nerd will do everything she can to try and help instill a love of reading in kids from a very young age. Enter Little Joe’s Coffee and Books. Warm up with a cup of coffee downstairs (or maybe enjoy some peppermint soft serve?!) and then head upstairs to wander through the kids books. You can even thumb through a few while sitting in the super cozy reading nook. And if you’re in need of any stocking stuffers, they’ve got a big table with fun, different choices. Trust me. You’re not going to want to leave.

Old New House
I’m not going to lie to you. Old New House is mostly for you. The second I stepped into it, I fell in love. And I wanted to buy just about everything. Thankfully for my bank account, I remembered that I was shopping for other people—at least on that particular day. I can’t make any promises the next time I step inside.
Filled with vintage and antique pieces as well as modern accents and pieces the husband and wife team behind the shop make themselves, this place is straight up dreamy. And they do have kids stuff. I’m pretty sure I squealed when I saw how the teepee, campfire and stuffed animals were styled. They also have kids art, rugs, and blankets—all great gift ideas for any baby showers you have coming up.

Last but not least, & James is a tweeny boppers dream. I’m actually really glad I didn’t have my daughters with me because they would have wanted to buy just about everything. From the emoji merchandise to the adorable accessories, this boutique has the cutest stuff for girls. There’s also stuff for boys, but this girl momma always hones right in on what her babies would love.
Speaking of which, the pieces they had for babies were really, really cute (like those adorable hooded towels and sweaters!). And possibly my favorite gift idea in the store was their pajama book sets. So. stinking. cute! The pajamas match the books (think Princess and the Pea, Dragons Love Tacos, and unicorns). I was in looooove.
